The IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Quantum Electronics is a scientific journal, published by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. The journal is published six times per year. Its described purpose is to publish manuscripts of original scientific and technological research and results, which advance the accumulated knowledge base in quantum electronics, on the levels of device, subsystem, system, or application. Published research results are to be focused on systems and parts of systems which generate or modulate coherent electromagnetic radiation in the submillimeter and shorter wavelengths domain. The potential impact on and for technological advancement in quantum electronic systems is emphasized as a criterion for accepting and publishing research results (submitted manuscripts). The bar raised is stated in a quote regarding acceptance, "System-oriented manuscripts must be concerned with systems that perform a function previously unavailable or that outperform previously established systems that did not use quantum electronic components or concepts."[1]
Published papers are first categorized broadly as areas of science and technology of quantum electronics. These can be related to a device, subsystem or discrete system. From this spectrum of broad topics, a specific topic is chosen for each issue, which then focuses the content.[1]
